Reflection & Review -  critical tools in your super curricular exploration

Engaging with your super curricular activities is a great way of enhancing your university application.  However, you need to remember that just reading a book or listening to a lecture does not automatically make you a more competitive candidate. It is important to do the right kind of activities and be able to reflect on what you have learnt and what skills you have acquired.

Keeping a Reflection Log

Reflecting is arguably the most crucial aspect of your super curricular activities. It demonstrates abilities like independent thinking and the capacity to make abstract conclusions, along with a dedication to understanding the subject beyond the scope of the syllabus.

We suggest maintaining a reflection log in your My Super Curricular account. Record pertinent activities, books you've read, events you've attended, and what you've listened to or watched.

After completing each activity, try to answer the following questions in detail:

Image result for thinking emoiWhat further questions did it raise?

Image result for thinking emoiHow was your perception or view of the subject changed? Does it confirm or deny any theories that you have read or heard about?

Image result for thinking emoiWhat did you agree or disagree with and why?

The responses to these questions will lay the groundwork for your reflections and possibly even the themes of your personal statement. We cannot stress enough the significance of reflection in your super-curricular activities, as it highlights your academic skills. Consider jotting down your notes immediately after completing the activity to capture your initial thoughts, which are often the most insightful and valuable.

Cambridge University offers an excellent example where four members of the academic staff analyse and reflect on the same short story. Use this as inspiration for your reflections.
