Where to Start

Knowing where to start can be daunting.  It's simply a case of working out which of these two categories you fall into and starting there.

You know what you want to do at university/degree apprenticeship / future plans

If you know this or at least have some idea then this is where you start. Decide on a broader field of interest and start saving and completing activities that grab your interest.

  • Look at each of the different types of resources, save as many as you find interesting and that way you can come back to them and evaluate them whenever you want.
  • Use the search functionality to help you find related materials, sometimes it might be a little unexpected but this allows you to show your interests and broaden the subject horizons.
  • Start your exploration broad and then narrow down to a few topics that you can explore in more detail.

Make sure you revisit the site regularly; remember we add new suggestions to every category weekly so returning to the site ensures you don't miss out on valuable activities.

You are not at all sure what to do at university/degree apprenticeship/future plans

Super curricular activities can help you to decide on the next steps. Consider what you enjoy doing. If one of your current subjects is particularly enjoyable then this is a good place to start. Look through resources linked to your favourite subject and start completing. From here you may well find suggestions for areas to search, and activities to complete which help you to hone your choice.  Remember, our subject categories are designed to stretch your understanding and knowledge of the subject, this will help you to consider different possibilities. We would also recommend you utilise a good careers platform to help with choosing appropriate next steps and then returning to our site to build that super curricular profile.

  • Try activities from different sections - discovering the way you prefer to work can help determine your future career.
  • Utilise the Work Experience section - with many short-on-demand work experience opportunities you can try different careers and see how you feel about them.
  • Try the university taster sessions in the Events section - a good way to "try" different university degrees.
  • Be brave and try activities and subjects you haven't considered before - you never know what you might discover!
