Work Experience and Volunteering Opportunities 💼
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, work experience has taken many shapes and sizes. Traditional work experience at a physical workplace still exists, but it can now be replaced or supplemented with virtual work experience, hybrid work, self-paced online modules, online simulators, work-focused expert panels and webinars.
This is great because it offers a lot of flexibility to students and opens access to wider experiences without geographical restrictions. This also reflects changes in the world of work, as many companies offer remote work and flexible hours. Students also appreciate that online work experiences are well structured and offer hands-on experience such as writing a brief or drafting a legal contract. As it is hard to come by physical work experience, we definitely recommend considering going virtual.
For healthcare courses work experience is a compulsory element of the application. You can try a combination of physical customer-facing / healthcare settings work or volunteering and virtual work experience. Make sure that you can draw the right skills and knowledge from what you have completed.
And don't forget about volunteering. From small local charities and helping an elderly neighbour to big national campaigns you can contribute to something good as well as develop valuable skills that will look great on your CV.
