Phil qualified as a Quantity Surveyor at Nottingham Trent University in 1991 during his professional career he has worked for small and large companies ranging from John Laing to Waites Construction and is now Commercial Director of Unite Construction Ltd.  Phil recommends the following for anyone considering applying for a degree in Quantity Surveying.

Phil started by recommending you understand the role and its different sub roles within different sectors of the industry, it is an often misunderstood career.  The RICS link below is ideal for this. He also went on to say work experience or discussions with people working in the industry are really useful. Work Experience can be virtual, physical short or long-term or job shadowing. All will allow someone to see the role in action.  We often publicise careers events in construction and work experiences in our work experience and volunteering section of the website.

The industry is fast-paced therefore magazines and regular publications hold more relevant and up-to-date information than books.
